i'm learning oracle database administration 10g. wondering tier oracle architecture belongs?

the traditional 3 tier model

client -> application server -> info storage

the info storage database, tier nomrally referred database tier.

so that's oracle database sits. other parts of oracle architecture sit down in other places. instance sql plus client , sits in client layer direct access database (two-tier), oem these days browser based client app server layer (three-tier).

of course, modern enterprises have more complicated arcitecturs many tiers (in-memory databases/caches, sans, etc)
