i'm curious why github calls submissions merge, "pull requests."

from understanding, git pull pull changes, remote repository, current working branch. merge changes fetch_head. (git pull)

so taking @ git push... force push committed changes repository. , isn't doing git repo? submitting "request" merge code? why isn't called "push request"?

the term “pull requests” comes distributed nature of how many open source projects organize themselves. instead of pushing changes repository (like centralized repository, e.g. subversion), publishing changes separately , inquire maintainer pull in changes. maintainer can on changes , said pull.
