is true image dimensions are:
2x2 | 4x4 | 8x8 | 16x16 | 32x32 | 64x64 | 128x128 | 256x256 | 512x512 // on . . . .
and on easier load , displaying? read somewhere computer these dimensions , perform well. apply in html documents? if so, should create icons , stuff in 16x16

while may true elsewhere (like favicons, see below), not case normal images in html documents. html image can have whatever dimensions want have.
for optimum performance, create sure image's physical size identical size of html image
tag, browser doesn't have resizing.

favicons should come in certain, defined sizes.
inside html document though, reasons have image 16x16 instead of 17x17 pixels design considerations. it's got nil performance.
