xcode - error adding files to project -

xcode - error adding files to project -

something weird happened , interested in insights.

i created 5 new custom button images in photoshop , saved them .png files. opened project, navigated "buttons" grouping in side-bar, , deleted existing placeholder custom button images. did "add files…" add together new images.

xcode displayed error message saying "multiple errors occurred while copying files". scheme console had error saying: "2/13/13 8:12:18.027 interface builder cocoa touch tool[1623]: cfpreferences: user home directory @ file://localhost/users/jack/library/application%20support/iphone%20simulator/user/ unavailable. user domains volatile."

the resulting image files in "buttons" grouping showed red. tried cleaning, deleting derived data, wasn't able files recognized through typical means.

what partially worked manually re-create files project folder, manually - each image name in reddish in "buttons" folder - click on location icon (see image below) explicitly take image file had copied project folder.

however, when tried build, got bunch of compiler errors references images files not existing re-create bundle.

eventually deleted entire "buttons" grouping + contents, added new grouping "new buttons", added image files again, did clean, build, , had explicitly drag each image file "copy bundle resources" section of target build phases before worked. such lot of pain thankfully i'm in business.
