i a newbie database programming , want seek out mysql. installed mysql official website, running mac 10.8.2. anyways, whenever seek run simple command $>mysql.server start says permission denied.

i able open through sudo love fixed annoying me, wont work properly. have been searching lastly 2 hours without finding fix, hoping give me helping hand.

if absolute newbie mysql , want utilize mysql server test code on local mac advice take @ xampp / mamp. xampp offers finish out of box install need development servers (apache server, mysql, php, etc). note, xampp / mamp not suitable production server setting.

i utilize xampp windows version. haven't tried mamp have come across many times . xampp mac version seem not have been update while suggest give mamp try.

you of course of study seek current install work might require work. regard firewall / security issues. out of box version have lot less. why reinvent wheel if can install out of box version.
